Georgia Personal Advantage - Plan 2000 vs Balance HMO 2000

Often when discussing Kaiser Georgia Personal Advantage Plans, the conversation comes down to talking about the similarities and differences between two of our most popular Individual and Family Plans for Georgia, Plan 2000 and Balance 2000. Though these two plans have a lot of similarities, there are some key differences. The Balance HMO 2000 is a bit more affordable because the coverage is not as rich as Plan 2000.

When comparing the benefits of these plans, you will notice right away that the lifetime maximum for these plans is distinct. Plan 2000 has an unlimited lifetime maximum while Balance 2000 is limited to a lifetime maximum of $3 million. This, along with the fact that Balance 2000 does not cover maternity while Plan 2000 includes pregnancy coverage, are the two biggest differences between these plans.

There are other less dramatic differences related to doctor visits and prescription drug coverage. Plan 2000 covers doctor visits with a $30 copayment while Balance HMO 2000 has a $40 copayment. Copayments for prescription drugs (generic/brand) are a bit more expensive for the Balance 2000 as well, $20/$40 at Kaiser Permanente for the Balance 2000 Plan and $15/$30 for Plan 2000. Similarly, the copayments for prescription drugs outside of Kaiser at places like Walgreens are a little cheaper for those on Plan 2000.

Applying for Multiple Children with Kaiser Georgia

What if I want to enroll my children, but I am not applying myself? Can I put my children on the same application? Can I enroll the kids on a family plan? Or, do I need to fill out separate applications for each child?

When applying for Kaiser Georgia Personal Advantage plans for more than one child, each child must be on a separate application. They will each have their own application. Two or more children (when parents are not applying) cannot be on a family plan. When filling out the applications for your children, each child will be listed as the subscriber on the application. The bill for your monthly premium will come in the child’s name. Also, if the subscriber is a minor, only the child’s SSN is needed.

September 2, 2008: Still Accepting Georgia Individual Applications

Due to the Labor Day holiday, the deadline for Kaiser Georgia Personal Advantage Enrollment has been extended to today, September 2, 2008. Individuals and families looking to start coverage for September should apply today. After today, you will need to wait until October 1st for your coverage to start. If you wish to apply today, please choose the “Pay By Credit Card” option to make sure your coverage is not delayed. Click Get Quotes to view Kaiser Permanente Georgia Individual and Family Rates, or click Apply to enroll.

Pay By Credit Card to Insure Coverage for the First of the Month

If you are applying for a Kaiser Georgia Personal Advantage Plan late in the month and you want your coverage to start on the 1st of the next month, we recommend choosing “Pay by Credit Card” for your payment option. Kaiser Permanente Georgia requires that the payment for your first month’s premium be received before your coverage can become effective. This late in the month, the only way to be sure your payment will be received on time is to pay by credit or debit.

If you are applying farther in advance of your desired effective date, you may choose to pay by electronic funds transfer or by monthly invoice. If you choose either of these options, you will need to send in a check for your first month’s premium. Just be sure that Kaiser Permanente receives your check in advance of your desired effective date. If you choose electronic funds transfer, you will also need to include a voided check.

Note: Once your application is submitted, your coverage will be subject to underwriting approval.

Payment Options for KP Georgia Personal Advantage

When applying for a Kaiser Permanente Georgia Personal Advantage Plan, you have three payment options:
1. Credit Card/Debit Card - Fastest way to get coverage in place!
2. Auto Draft
3. Monthly Invoice

We recommend Option 1 where you can pay by credit card or debit card. This is the fastest way to get your coverage in place because this method does not require sending a check. If you choose Option 2 or 3, you must submit a check by mail for your first payment before your coverage can become effective. Many applicants who choose the last two options end up not getting the check in on time and have to wait a month for their coverage to start.

Why are people choosing Kaiser Permanente in Georgia?

Kaiser Permanente offers many advantages for people living in the Atlanta, Georgia area. Kaiser is the only carrier in the area that covers maternity in the first 12 months. Lab work and radiology is covered 100% before the deductible for all the (non-HSA) plans. Also, all these plans cover doctor visits, specialty visits and prescription drugs with a copayment before the deductible is met. Kaiser members in Georgia also have access to a large network of non-Kaiser facilities and doctors. Those who wish to keep their family doctor, even though this physician is not a Kaiser doctor, can often remain with their doctor on a Kaiser Permanente healthcare plan.

Georgia Individual Maternity Coverage

Any of the regular HMO plans will work for maternity. These plans include the Premier Plan, Plan 500, Plan 1000, Plan 2000, Plan 3000, and Plan 5000. All these plans offer the same coverage for maternity. Maternity charges are $1,000 for ob/gyn/midwife services (prenatal, postnatal and delivery). There is a $2,000 charge for hospital delivery. Other charges may apply especially if there are complications with the birth. Whichever of these plans you choose, you’re looking at a minimum of a $3,000 to have a baby. Click Individual and Family Health Insurance Quote and choose the plan that is right for you and your family. If you qualify for group coverage, you may want to consider that because the Georgia group plans have richer maternity coverage.
